Hello neighbors, I missed the past couple meetings due to family obligations. What is the latest on that dome upgrade and the PDC contracting someone to work on it?
After thinking about the blue prints and presentation vs. the big picture, I must say it will be six figures of tax money squandered. If the Elliot Neighborhood wants to leave a legacy then upgrading that dome so it will be a nicer place to drink is not the answer.
I believe a much more worthy contribution would be to instead formallly ask the budget money to be diverted to Boise-Elliot Elementary or PPS. Teacher lay offs and property tax breaks for those who need it most in the Pearl Penthouses aside, their playground off Fremont is a tangible example of their needs. As long as the kids at that school must play on a glorified parking lot with worn equipment, with trash blowing around, then I can not in good conscious support this misguided allocation of public funds.
For all I care let the whino dome fall down in the fantasy "BIG ONE THAT'S COMING...REALLY...WE SWEAR" earthquake- I'd rather have a community with kids who can spel
The dome in Dawson park is an icon for the Eliot neighborhood. It is historically significant and contributes to the livability of the neighborhood. I suppose, having parks with nice fixtures is not mandatory for survival, however it does make the neighborhood better.
Money for schools is an excellent idea. Instead of "Protesting" the dome, spend that energy to convince the voters of Portland to approve school bond measures. If you still have protesting energy consider protesting the drinking in the park. If you need help with either let me know.
